IPSDTS Tips

Sometimes, I get two invoices for one DOT Drug Testing. Why?

Sometimes it appears that a company gets two invoices and pay twice for one drug test.  This is becuase DOT Drug Testing has two parts:

  • Collection: DOT Drug Testing starts with collection of urine by the clinic who sends the specimen to the lab. Clinics charge you for their collection services called collection fee.  It can vary widely from clinic to clinic
  • Drug Test: Once received, the lab completes drug tests and sends to it IPS who compiles all information from the clinic and the lab, and sends a report to you. IPS charges you for the lab test, MRO and other DOT safety compliance services.

It is for this reason, you may get two invoices, one from the clinic and one from IPS.   Please note that you only pay once to IPS (no bill from the clinic) if you send your driver with an E-Passport.  With E-Passport, IPS pays the clinic on your behalf as a pass-though expense and bill you for both collection and drug test.
